Important: Pocket RCT is legacy software which is discontinued. We still provide free tech support on this page, and personal tech support for pRCT v4.6 software sold/upgraded within seven years. See the Pocket RCT Support Options Page page for tech support pricing.

There will be no further updates for Pocket RCT since the platform is essentially dead and the hardware is aging and obsolete due to market forces beyond our control. We recommend moving to our newer CyberTuner for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as soon as possible. If you are starting to have hardware issues, that's the perfect time to move up to "iRCT". Please see Question 1 below.

o 1. What is the future for Pocket RCT?

If you are concerned about the long term, we recommend moving to our new iRCT, or CyberTuner for Apple iOS. iRCT runs on iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. If you need a larger screen, iPads have 7" to 13" screens and are a great choice. If you don't need a phone and/or are on a budget, an iPod touch costs about $150 with no contract. We don't expect any further development or new features for Pocket RCT, all current and future development is concentrated on the Apple iOS platform. HP and Dell stopped making/supporting Windows Mobile devices many years ago. Good parts and batteries for HP iPAQs and Dell Axims are almost impossible to find as Windows Mobile is now an orphan, obsolete platform.

o 2. What are the support options available for Pocket RCT?

Free tech support is provided on this web page. You may need personal tech support, for instance questions that involve activation/deactivate, installation of Pocket RCT software or questions about moving to a different Pocket PC. If the answer is not found on this page (and 90% of answer are) and you desire personal help, and your software was purchased or upgraded seven years ago or less, then you may purchase support on the Pocket RCT Support Options page. Your support purchase enables us to allocate an RCT expert's time and attention to solve your issue as quickly and completely as possible!

o 3. What are the system & hardware requirements for Pocket RCT?

Win
Windows Mobile
Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system versions 5, or 6 on HP iPaq or Dell Axim Pocket PC.
Requires a 400 mhz or faster processor, touch screen, microphone and a CF/SD memory card slot to match your SentinelKey.

NOT SUPPORTED BY POCKET RCT: Any HTC product, HP iPAQ 200 series, any Palm Treo, any Windows Mobile phone, Windows Phone, any Android phone or Apple iPhone, any Palm product.

If you are needting to move to a newer/different Windows Mobile device we recommend you first consider our new "iRCT" or RCT for Apple iPhone, iPod or iPad. Apple iOS devices start at about $149 USD for an iPod touch 5. Contact us for a special offer only for Pocket RCT users.
Otherwise if you must stay with Windows Mobile, the best choices for newer machines are the HP iPAQ 11x series or the HP iPaq hx249x or hx279x series. These are available on ebay.com and amazon.com. However good quality new batteries (both backup and main) are impossible to find for any Windows Mobile device.

o 5. How can I move Pocket RCT from my old machine to a new one?

The Pocket RCT software can easily and quickly move from one machine to another if you carefull READ and follow the step-by-step instructions below. Please remember that the Pocket RCT license allows you to run Pocket RCT on one and only one machine at a time. Don't dispose of the old Pocket PC (even if broken) before contacting us, see below.

What you will need to move to a new machine:
A. Old machine.
B. New machine.
C. An SD card with the latest Pocket RCT version ready to install. The latest version is v4.6.0f1.
D. Your SentinelKey.
E. Windows Mobile 5 or later license upgrade. (Please note we no longer sell this license upgrade.) F. Purchase a one time activation. See the Pocket RCT Support Options page. items P2 or P3.

RCT Before proceeding, we recommend considering a better option. Moving to to "iRCT", or Reyburn CyberTuner for iPod, iPad and iPhone. iRCT runs on an iPod touch which brand new costs about $149 to $199 from Apple.com, Walmart or BestBuy, less than many used Windows Mobile devices. And an iPod touch is far more reliable, useful and faster. iRCT has many other advantages over Pocket RCT such as the ability to run on multiple devices. See the iRCT page for details and pricing. Contact us for a special offer for Pocket RCT users for a limited time.

To move your Pocket RCT license to another Windows Mobile 5 or later machine:

0. Before purchasing a new machine, make sure the new machine is capable of running Pocket RCT and has Windows Mobile 5 or later (older Windows Mobile versions are not supported). The hardware must have a physical slot for your SentinelKey (CF or SD card).

1. Install the latest Pocket RCT version onto the new device with your SD update card.
If you don't have an SD card with version 4.6.0f1 you can download the latest Pocket RCT version and copy to an SD card. We no longer offer a shipped memory card.

Make sure Pocket RCT installs without warnings. You don't need an activation code to install the software, when Pocket RCT asks for the SentinelKey, then an activation code, it is fully installed (just not activated). Some users may need to upgrade to a later version, all software can be downloaded directly from the internet.

Hint: If the SD card autorun doesn't work try tapping either WM34PocketRCT.CAB or WM56PocketRCT.CAB files.

Note 1: You will need to purchase a one-time-use activation, see items "P1", "P2" or "P3". See the RCT Support Options page.

2. If installation is successful you will see the Pocket RCT Activation Window and a machine serial number on your new Pocket PC. You must have a slot for the SentinelKey to successfully install and see the Activation Window. If your new machine does not have slot for the SentinelKey you will need to find one that does.

Back to the old Pocket PC...

3. Make sure you have Pocket RCT 4.6.0f1 installed on the old device. To remove Pocket RCT from the old machine tap here:
Start menu > Settings > System tab > Remove Programs and then select "Reyburn Piano Service, Inc. Pocket RCT" and tap Remove. Answer "Yes" to "Deactivate?".

If you need further or more specific help see the Easy Pocket PC deactivate page.

4. For working old Pocket PC devices, after removal and deactivation is complete, you'll see an 8 digit Deactivation code. Carefully write it down and save this code. If you don't have this code, start File Explorer, browse to the SentinelKey and tap the file "activate". If that doesn't give you an 8 digit deactivation code, reinstall Pocket RCT and reactivate.

5. Submit a request for a new Activation code using the link sent after purchasing an activation code. To purchase activation the RCT Support Options page. The latest Pocket RCT version must be installed before requesting and activation code. You don't need an activation code to install the software and view the Pocket RCT activation window.

Don't dispose of the old Pocket PC (even if broken) before contacting us. In some cases we may ask you to ship us the old machine. For more detailed deactivation instructions see (including deactivating broken machines):

Pocket RCT deactivate page.

o 5. What do I do with Pocket RCT if I'm having my Pocket PC device repaired?

If you're having a new battery, case or screen installed, or similar repair, there's nothing special to do. However in that case you should instruct the repair company that they MUST NOT replace the motherboard. Replacing the motherboard will alter the machine's serial number and require a new activation code, for which there is a charge. There is no need to deactivate Pocket RCT if you've having any part other than the mother board replaced. ONLY DEACTIVATE before shipping If you've having the motherboard replaced. See item 3 above, replacing the mother board is the same thing as replacing the machine.

o 6. How do I obtain a copy of the latest Pocket RCT version v4.6.0f1?

To download from the web we provide a URL, username and pasword. See the RCT Support Options page to purchase a download.

o 7. Pocket RCT is showing a deactivation code. What happened?

The user must have requested and approved deactivation of Pocket RCT - there are multiple warning messages to confirm deactivation. It is not possible for the Pocket RCT software to deactivate itself. You will need to purchase support and a new activation code, see Pocket RCT Support Options page. It may be more cost effective to upgrade to iRCT rather than to invest in a dead platform.

o 8. How do I install the RCT Ten Styles Tuning Library on my Pocket PC?

Normally the "RCT Ten Styles Library" SD card is the first SD card you should install, see the Pocket RCT 4.5x Getting Started Manual for installation instructions.

However, if the Ten Styles Library is not installed for some reason, it's easy to fix.

A. Insert the RCT Ten Styles Library SD card in the machine. (you will need the original SD card).

B. Tap Start Menu/Programs/File Explorer (or Start Menu/File Explorer). In the menu at upper left corner (just below "File Explorer", may say "My Documents")

C. Tap the menu and select My Device/ Storage (or CF or SD) Card/2577. Tap on "Autorun". Installation should occur. If a window appears informing you that a previous version is already installed, tap OK.

If the above does not work, you can install the library manually by tapping either file "RCT Ten Styles...". One file will work, the other won't. After installing the library start Pocket RCT, choose File menu, Open file.

o 9. How do I create a Historical Temperament tuning?

A. Make sure you are in Chameleon's Advanced mode with Name and Save tunings turned ON. Tap the Advanced button in File menu, check the box next to Name and Save...

B. Calculate a tuning in Chamleon and name it. The tuning will be initially calculated in Equal Temperament and CyberEar will appear.

C. Tap the File menu, View Tunings, tap-and-hold on the a Tuning Record's header and select Hist Temp or select an item (tap on its header) and choose Hist Temp under the Tools menu.

D. Select the Historical Temperament of your choice and tap the "Create" button. The first 57 Historical Temperaments used in Pocket RCT are taken from Owen Jorgenson's tome "Tuning".

"Type" helps you identify the different temperaments: W=Well, R=Regular Meantone, M=Modern Meantone, Q=Quasi Equal, P=Pythagorean. Type numbers are Pocket RCT's way to help you identify the various temperaments within a Type. After Creating a Historical Temperament tuning record, its Type (eg., W12) will be automatically written into the end of its header, replacing "Ch3".

User Temperaments are very similar. Please see page 17 in the Pocket RCT v4.5x Getting Started Manual for further instructions.

Interested in non-Equal temperaments? Our newer CyberTuner for iOS includes 114 temperaments including 57 Jorgensen and 57 Di Veroli temperaments (under exclusive license from Di Veroli). Converting temperaments with iRCT is dramaticaly improved since each iRCT tuning record knows it's temperament can can be converted back to Equal Temperament or converted directly to any other temperament.
